TRAINS HELD UP
TRUCK AXLE BREAKS
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Harcli 30. A derailment on the-Main Trunk lino about ten miles' north of Taumaruvmi early, this morning caused inconvenience to passengers on crowded expresses and special' holiday trains coining tq Auckland from the south.- Some of these trains were delayed for from two to four hours. Delays "were caused by the breaking of an axle of a truck when a special goods train from To Euiti to Taumaru- ( nui was running between Te Koura and 1 Ongarue about 1 o 'clock this morning. No part of the tr&in left the rails, "biit the north-bound expresses, which were due to pass over this section within the next few hours, could not proceed until the single track was cleared. Express trains which left Auckland at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday had passed Te Koura before the mishap occurred, but a special holiday express for Wellington, dispatched from Auckland at 7.40 p.m., was held up for three hours. These -were the ordinary afternoon Main Trunk express and the Limited express from Wellington, an extra holiday express which left Wellington |on Thursday "afternoon," and a special express from New Plymouth. All ar. rived here late. '
The express that left Auckland at 7.45 p.m. on Thursday for ■Wellington did not reach here until four hours after her schedule, time. .The express was due at Thorndon at 12.3S p.ni "yesterday, but aia not arrive until 4.35 p.m. •'■-..
The line is clear now, and all train* are running to schedule. '
