WAIPUKURAU MEETING

GOOD FIELDS FOR MONDAY

With the exception of the Hawke's Bay fixture, North Island meetings that opened today will be concluded on Monday, and there will be an addition with the Waipukurau Jockey- Club's Autumn Meeting at Waipukurau. The Hawke's Bay fixture now comprises two separate meetings, and the second meeting will not be held till next batwday.

lor the Waipukurau Meeting on Mouday excellent acceptances, with one exception, were made, and the stage is well set for. a successful day's sport. It is a popular meeting -with Hawke'e Bay racegoers, and the move of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Uub last year hi slipping in part .of its Autumn Meeting at Easter instead ot later, on as previously has enabled a useful form line to be. provided for the established Easter Monday fixture at Waipukurau. ; Winners today are, of course, liable, to rehandicap. ■ , Thia club used the win-and-place system of betting at its last '; two meetings, but it has reverted to'the old- eirigle-pool method of distribution for Monday. The Principal item, on the day'e card is the Waipukurau. Cup, which will be contested by a rather better field than -was running in today's Hawke's Bay' Cup. The form of Slippery, Gainsfld, Cuticle, and bylvan Dell as Cup prospects will be revealed' by today's racing, and a winning or other good showing by any of them would make such hode the likely favourite ,on Monday. At present Gainsfid makes the main appeal among them. The most solid of the new blood, may be Chopin, Kahunoke, and Blacksmith,; and if Kahunoke succeeds in the Hastings hack niile today and is started in the Cup he '-will be in favour. Chopin, who was not entered for Hastings, has been in the money at Ilia last three starts, so he looks to have a chance of putting his name back on the. winning list for the first time this season. .

The Flying Handicap has also drawn a useful field, with Souchong and Kaihoro, Slippery,^ Hunting Day, and Cullus among those engaged. Today's racing- at Hastings and Peilding (where Souchong is engaged) should assist towards the, solution of this probleml Kaihoro/ it may be observed, has won the race' the last two years, but he is getting on in age now. Among horses who are likely to be in demand are:— ' . il-.40: Maiden Race.—Hatuma, Marae Quex, and Royal Quex. . 12.25:'' Hatiima Hack Handicap.—Hunting Jay,■ Grumpy,, and Vonia Park. 1.5: Ruataniwha Hack.
