BOWL TESTING IN FINAL GAMES
The unfortunate incident-of'. tho Nelson pair's bowls being ruled-out,by the. official tester prior to' the. final '«{ the championship pairs being i played clearly shows us that-we must be;more careful in seeing that our- bowls !aro kept ,to a reasonable "standard."(wrote "Draw" in the • Dunedin. "Star' 1). ' There is, unfortunately^a desire among a good' many players-'to have ■ their bowls right down .to. ttie smallest draw the law; will allow. .This is an error,-as they should always .hiye a little to come and go on. ; Many play* ers also neglect to have: their bowls tested again within a reasonable time, and in- many cases the' ordinary, wear, and; tear of use will reduce their jtlrawj bo players who this year have a<nar"i row one will next year, have a narrorwier one. I certainly thinkvthat a-player whoso' bowls will not pull the standard when tested during a tourneyi should be disqualified" and not allowed, to take any further part in it. \ .-: : '- :
Of improving players there rare quit* a few to bo seen on the various, greens. The Hutt X!lub is one; which. ; has .soimt fine players coming on, and througk its representatives,- it should be :*no\r> ing. up even more cbnspicuously/-ia-till -"»ar future. ,/'>./< ■'.';•-1-'-.- ';:'■.V "r'i".?
