PETONE CENTRAL CLUB
The Petone Central Tennis Club.'has had a very successful. season, particu-larly-so far as winning the compete tions for which it has entered is con; cerned. ' Four'teams were entered in the Hutt Valley Sub-Association competitions, two in the.'vhird grade, and one each in the fourth and fifth grades. The first third grade team,' and the fourth and fifth grade teams won their respective competitions and the club also won the. club championship. The club's competitions are now being concluded and the women's and. men's singles are expected to be finished this weekend, with the mixed doubles next week. It is intended to present the prizes to the winners and runners-up at a complimentary social after Easter.
A profit of £108 was made by'the Canterbury Lawn Tennis-Association from the tournaments held during tho past season at Wilding Park. Tho visit of the English team resulted in a financial profit of £327 6s; lid to the New Zealand Association. Of that amount the Canterbury Association received £35. The national tourney and the annual Wilding Shield and Nunncley Casket matches are expected to result in a net profit to the Canterbury Association of over £50. The Canterbury tournament resulted in an approximate net profit of £23.
