HERETAUNGA CLUB
SUCCESSFUL SEASON
The Heretaunga Boating Club, which has now completed its programme/ has had the most successful season of its career. Many new. ventures have been tried, and tneir; success speaks well for the management and members' who have pushed the club ahead. ' ' '
■Last March a: ladies'' regatta was discussed with a; certain amount 'of doubt on the part : of the, ladies' but it was carried out.with such a success that now it has become part"of 'the:programme. ' ';"' f ■ '
I The next venture was*a regatta at New ..Year for 'centreboard boats. Southerly "busters" prevailed, but, despite the elements, a very successful three days' racing was enjoyed, and next year Heretaunga are catering for sixty boats and. class racing. The ihleAlong Challenge Shield, which is the most coveted trophy to date, "is" also a Heretaunga' prdmotion. And now wo have; the schoolboys yachting • shieldj which is the finest move for the promotion of yachting that could be evolved. Though there, was very-little *timo to train these boys, it was wonderful to see the way in,which they handled their boats. Yach-t racing is "the. main topic at the four Petone schools, and the boys are' all looking, forward to ,take part ■in.'.the regular club racing"next year. The club's next venture is to start a^fleet'iof the Highet-seven-footers to ;]be • sailed- in, the. quiet waters "at ■ the ino'utli* of the Hutt 'Eiver*.' -This also will be a success; as' th'e'teamwort of building and helping' others tp' build^ is the' key to the progress' of the vcjub.' " ■;. The. club is in a. very'sound financial position, and, next' year .is expected ;to. be oven'more suceessfuV: .'. ;-1 ■ '
