TELEGRAPH RATES
SOUTHERN PROTEST
(By Telegraph.—Press. Association.) ' INVERCABGILL, This Day. The Stock Exchange has sent a resolution to the Postniaster-General (the Hon. A. Hamilton)- emphatically pro-j testing against the introduction of the new telegraphic rates increasing the cost beyond a shilling for twelve words. The protest was made on the ground that Invereaigill was doing extensive business with the northern cities, and would suffer more in extra expense than the northern centres; also, that the new rate was a retrograde step, and would decrease rather than .increase the revenue of the Department.
