IMPROVING WEATHER
BETTER PROSPECTS
The enjoyment or otherwise of the coming Easter holidays depends much on.the- weather. According to the forecast issued at noon today,,this should improve gradually and subsequently be fine. An intenso: anticyclone now extends across theTasman Sea on to the Dominion, although' pressure -is still rather low to the north owing to a depression ;up there. The forecast is for south-easterly winds tpH the north of Greymouth and -Banks'-. Peninsula. About and to.the north: of: Cook Strait winds -will still- be-strong, but - will soon decrease in> force. Elsewhere winds will be more variable in direction, with south-easterlies to north-easterlies predominating. Although cloudy and still showery along the east coast and in eastern districts of the North Island, the weather elsewhere should be fine. Temperatures will be cold today but milder tomorrow. Cold south-easterly or southerly winds prevailed yesterday, galo force being reached at times in the Cook Strait area and along tho «ast coast. There was a gradual decrease, however,- in tho strength of the wind. Yesterday's weather was fine in Westland, -but elsewhere it continued unsettled with intermittent rain..;: Showers, were still occurring - this, morning on" the coast between Cook Strait and East Cape, and the weather in eastern districts was still dull; conditions- otherwise were showing an improvement. Auckland had dull, misty, and showery weather yesterday, : -with a fresh, westerly wind. ■". '' ;' Conditions-in Wellington were very unpleasant and cold,, with a boisterous southerly wind.- Drizzling rain fell at times during the morning, but tho afternoon tried to' make' amends with one hour of bright, sunshine. Although the rainfall at; Kelburu amounted to two points only, 45 points.of rain fell during the day in Lower Hutt. ..' . Christ-church had "cold, dull, and showery weather, with ar strong southwesterly wind.. Ten points of rain were recorded there.- '; ; - Dunedin also had cold and unsettled weather light ra,in early in tho morning. The wind there was a light south-westerly. -
