PERMISSION GRANTED
A. change of attitude by the .'Wellington City Couucil towards the Returned Soldiers' Association's request for permission to-hold-Poppy Day on Friday, AprilSO, was. repovtcd. at last night's meeting or! the association's executive. "When the request was first made, it was turned down on the grounds that the council had decided not to allo-w street collections.oh -Fridays. In renewing the request the association pointed out that Poppy Day was not in the same category as other Street collections in which produce was sold, and the council then decided to sanction the date desired. . . • . - . A- member:" That-was because Councillor Duncan was absent. The chairman (Colonel A. Cowlcs) said tlfat the council.had treated them very well. . It was pointed out that the association^ had 35,000.poppies on hand and that the cost of making these was 3d each. -It was thought therefore, that not less than 6d should be asked from (hose wishing to buy them.
