EMBODIMENT IN TRAFFIC BILL
fßrltfan Official Wlreleei.) (Received March 28, 11 a.m.) • - KUGBT, March 27. An. important change in the lawin respect of liability for road deaths due to negligence of driving is foreshadowed in the interim report of the Law Bevision Committee. Anomalies under the existing law are cited by the committee,, and recommendations for abol-r ishing them aremade. ,
"The Times" says that, -while it is unlikely that any general regulations to implement the whole rbpoit will be introduced by the Government this session, owing to the pressure of business, it is understood that* the major proposal o£ the- committee; in so far as :it affects liability for road deaths, will be dealt with in the Koad Traffic Bill, which, was react a first time in.the House of Commons yesterday, introduced by the Minister of Transport (Major Oliver Stanley). The Bill represents the first step in a big campaign to- reduce.the number- of road accidents in the country. The assistance of newspapers, films, and' the broadcasting- service will be enlisted in this task, and tomorrow the- campaign will be- briefed in the broadcasting programme when Major Stanley will make a speech.
