RAIN DEVELOPING IN NORTH
The.weather'forecast at.noon today was for south to east winds north of Westport ana Kaikoura, elsewhere, mainly, south; to west, becoming strong north of CJook Strait, and at times also aboutvPoveaux Strait; elsewhere moderate. The weather is likely to be fair at first in most districts,, but rain developing shortly;in the far nofthj and extending gradually southwards.' Some scattered showers are likely also on the* eastcoast ; and later from Otago southwards. ■■"■--.:. . ■ .•■■ An intense anticyclone is now centred east of Otago, while a cyclone has continued to operate to the north of Norfolk Island. The weather has been fine over most of the Dominion, but' showers fell yesterday in the ■ far south, and extended up the east coast as far as Christchurch during "last night. Winds generally have been light to moderate in force, Jmt have freshened at times about Cook Strait and in the far north. Westerlies and sonthwesterlies_ prevailed yesterday, but by this morning the direction had become mainly south-easterly. . Auckland yesterday experienced fine sunny conditions, with a light southwest wind. --■' •.■'..■■■ It was again fine and bright in Wellington, and moderate to fresh northerly winds prevailed. There were 10.1 hours of bright sunshine. In Christehurch it'was calm, mild, and sunny in the morning, but from noon it became dull and cooler,, a south-westerly . breeze .' springing up. Since 2 a.m; drizzling' raia has fallen" the total being :16 points. ' _ Duneain had- dull weather and occasional light showers, with a very light south-west wind. ■ -
