(By Telegraph—Pres3 Association.) CARTERTON, This Day. The most severe earthquake since 1904 was experienced at Carterton. It occurred at 11.49 o'clock- last night. The movement first was slightly undulating, then rotary, I and up and down with a general movement from west to cast, which is unusual in this district, the general direction being from south-east or northwest. Stock in several shops was thrown from the shelves, and chimneys in private houses were damaged. No serious losses are reported. Greytown, Featherston, and Martinborough suffered from fallen chimneys. The whole district came through the ordeal very well.'
