SHIPMENTS OF FRUIT

(Special to the "Evening Post.") NELSON, February 26,

Mr. F. W. O. Smith, in addressing newly-installed officers at the annual conference of Manchester Unity Oddfellows, pointed out that the Loyal Nelson Lodge was the pioneer lodge of New Zealand, having its foundation in 1842. The lodge was formed on board one of the sailing ships which came to Nelson in the first year of the settloment, and the first meeting was held in the flax which then grew on the port mils. ,The officers are:—District Grand Master, Bro. E, J. Curry; Deputy p.G.M., Bro. Stephen Borkin; District Secretary, Bio. C. R. Cocker; District Treasurer, Bro. S. F. Bolton; Warden and Relieving Officer, Bro. S. Anderson, G. H. Hammond, R. W. Bruning, F. Krahagen, t*. Scott, and W. Anderson; auditors, Bros. W. D. Harknoss and D. D. Merntt; lodge book examiners, Bros. C. R. Cooke and J. Heath. It was reported to the conference that the Manchester Unity, centenary celebrations in 1942 would be held at Nelson. ,

The overseas steamer Mamari completed loading a direct shipment of export apples arid sailed for Wellington at the weekend. The local shipping supervisor for the Fruitgrowers' Federation pointed out . today that 52,000 cases of fruit would be received

in Wellington this week to fulfil shipping allotments. Further shipping allotments available- today show that two shipments arc eot down for direct loading at Nelson next month. Tho Port Alma will load 37,000 cases from March' 10 to 13 for tho Continent, and the Nebraska will remain at Nelson from March 29 "to April 9 in order to load 120,000 cases for London and English west coast ports. '

In scoring 48 points at both the 300 and 500 yards ranges on Saturday, P. Sharland won the A feathers and spoon at the weekly shoot of tho Nelson Dot fence Eiflo Club. The B feathers were won by P.
