OBITUARY

MRS. W. HUNTER

The death of Mrs. AY. Hunter, an old identity, occurred last Tuesday.

Born in Tialee, County Kerry, Ireland, on May 27, 1557, the late Mrs. Hunter, at the ago of 18 years, left England on October 12, 1875, by the ship Caroline, and arrived at Nelson on January 14, 1876, going on to Marlborough in the same year. She was married in 1879 to Air. W. Hunter, of Tuamarina, and for seven years was associated with her husband in farming, undergoing the hard work of the pioneers. In 1887 Mr. Hunter relinquished farming and entered into the hotel business, subsequently conducting hotels in the Mailborough, Wellington, and Taranaki districts. ' • Mrs. Hunter was of a kindly and hospitable nature, and during her long life she was known' for her" kindness and broad outlook,.and anything in the nature of help to those "not so well placed as "herself always had her warmest sympathjv. The fate Mrs. Hunter is survived by her husband, two sons, Mr. J. F. Hunter (Wellington), Mr. T. A. Hunter (Auckland), and three daughters, Mrs.-1 1, A. Giles (Highland Park, Wellington), and Misses Kathleen and Esther C. Hunter (Wellington). She also leaves sixteen grandchildren. The- funeral took place on Thursday at the Karori Cemetery, many old-time friends paying their last respects to a: lady who was widely known for her kindly qualities. Many beautiful wreaths and messages of sympathy were received. The service at the gravesido was conducted by the Rev. Fathers Kelly and Devoy.
