A Pioneer Resident.

Many Wellington friends "will be interested to hear that a very old Wellington resident, Mrs. Frances Harriet j Twiss, ■will celebrate her 93rd birthday on February 6 at. Auckland. Mrs. Twiss, wife of Captain George Twiss, left.England in 1866, for Wellington with her two small children, her husband preceding her in his own ship. Mrs. Twiss's long association with the Miss Greenwood's school will be remembered by many old pupils -^and friends, and there are still living a number of friends with whom she happily claims a friendship of over 70 years' standing. Mrs. Twiss is the fortunate possessor of wonderful health. She both visits and receives many visitors, and her personal charm and teen interest in her many friends and her grandchildren are as fresh and delightful as ever. Four generations will bo present at her birthday gathering—Mrs. C. H. Vickers, her son, Mr. Ronald Toulson, and his baby daughter. Mrs. Twiss has two sons and three daughters, Mr. H. T. Twiss (Auckland), Mr. F. G. Twiss (Nelson), Mrs. C. H. Vickers (Khandallah), Mrs. Harold Eoehfort (Hamilton), and Miss Helen Twiss (who resides in Auckland with Mrs. Twiss),. Concert at Health Camp. An entertainment for the children at the' Otaki Health Gamp was held by Miss Florence George- and her fellowguests at The Capitol recently, when all joined in the games and community singing. The Misses Henry, Laird, and Tossman danced, Masters Palliser aud Sutherland contributed songs, and Miss Whitehead gave a selection on the guitar. The accompaniments were played by Miss Henry and Mrs. Mayer. In addition to amusing the children, Miss George and her associates brought then^a' quantity of nuts, fruit, and eggs. After a vote of thanks was passed, the children sang "For They Are Jolly Good Fellows" and gave three hearty cheers for the visitors. , Wellington W.C.T.TT. " Mis. Chisholm presided over the first meeting of the year of the Wellington Women's Christian Temperance .Union. Mesdames Murray and Perry were elected vice-presidents. It had been arranged to have a "Bring-and Buy" stall with Mesdames King and Seif in charge. Good business was done, and the funds augmented. Mesdames McLellan and Connor contributed two vocal solos and Miss E. Webb, L.A.8., played a pianoforte solo. A small donation was voted to the Hospital Ladies' Auxiliary to help provide extra comforts for the patients in the Victoria.Home. One new honorary member was received. ,
