"THE STOKKIN' TRALE"

MORE CHRISTMAS GIFTS

■Quaintly labelled "The Stokkin'Tralc," there is a large and delightful heap of Christmas stockings (collected by the Guides and Guiders of Wellington city and suburbs) at the , Guide Boom at Kelvin Chambers. The idea originated from theP British Guide Magazine, where it was seen tha,t . the English Guides had arranged to hold a "Stokkin' Trale" in some of the counties on a.certain day; and the inspiration came to the Guiders here to make the same effort.

Three cars started from Upper Hutt, Miss Enid Bell driving one,i Mrs. M. Tweed another .(with a "Post" Guide and two Bangers), and a third car joined in'at Lower Hutt. They ha* great success, approximately \ 265 "stockings" being collected, some brand new, and others made daintily of muslin or figured silk—sonic, rather pathetically, filled with favourite toys which were parted with, rather ■regret-' fullyi: inside the stockings could ~b& seen frocks and hats, furniture, tops rand balls, sweets and tools, and many other things-which, will be priceless possessions to the children to whom these stockings are to be distributed.. The "Urchin Juniors," who) according to the labels, are to have the treasures, will be happy ones, indeed-. It is intended to give some to the Smith Family and others to the Salvation Army, so they will all be well disposed, of to the best advantage. ':
