THREAT TO AUCTION SYSTEM
SYDNEY, December 18. The Australian system of wool marketing is menaced, according to a well-informed contributor to the "Sydney Morning Herald," who declare* that there is a remarkable growth of selling wool on the station or farm: He estimates that four time aioro Wool this year has been sold in country districts by private treaty than last season, a largo percentage comprising the best wools, which aro shipped direct to milts abioad. He also estimates that a, considerable proportion of the wool sold in this manner was obtained, .at 2d to 4d a. pound below current auction values. ,
The correspondent contends that this sort 0* thing is bound to force .down levels at auction and eventually lead to chaos.
