"PAYMENT IN GOLD"
VALIDITY OF CLAUSE
HOUSE OF LORDS DECISION
LEGAL CONTRACT
United Tress Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, December 17. The House of Lords has given judgment upholding the validity of the gold clause in the case of the Societe Intercommunale Beige d'Electricite bonds, thus reversing the decisions of the lower Courts. ■-The "Financial News" says the decision is a most important step in defence of a legal contract as against financial conveniences. The chief importance of the decision is the vindication of tho truth that -at least the British gold clause remains as good as gold, and that payment in gold does not mean payment in paper.
