MAORI SCHOLARSHIPS
CANCELLATION PROTEST
(Special to the "Evening Post.") AUCKLAND; December 17. The cancellation of scholarships by the Maori Purposes Fund Control Board was referred to by the principal of Wesley Collego (Mr. R. C. Clark) when speaking at the prize-giving ceremony at the college. "I would like to protest against the action of the board in cancelling its Maori scholarships," said Mr. Clark. "At present it is practically impossible for a Maori lad, however capable, to receive more than two years' secondary education. A clear statement of the board's activities, financial position, and future policy would be welcomed by persons and bodies interested in the education of Maori boys and girls. It has been our experience that such information is extremely difficult to obtain."
