BOYS' CHOIR
SOLO SINGING CONTEST
Instituted with a view to further encouraging singing amongst the boys of Wellington, a solo singing competition was held in Nimmo's Hall on Saturday by the Wellington Boys' Choir, instituted during the present year by Mr. H. Temple White. The winner of the competition, Eric dc Mauny (son of Mr. and Mrs. Leon de Mauny) .was presented with a gold medal given by Mr. W, L. Page. The runnerup in the competition was Donald Collins.
Most of the boys who compose the choir entered for the competition, and.somevery charming singing was heard. The test consisted of the solo, "Nymphs and Shepherds" (Purcell),-which had to be sung by each competitor. In addition, the competitors .were required to render a solo of their own selection. The adjudicator, Mr. ■Robert Parker, in awarding the medal to Master de Mauny, praised the lad's beauty of tone and his artistic appreciation. Mr. Parker remarked on the value of the boys' choir, and the good work that Mr. White was doing in having instituted such a body in Wellington. He wished the choir and conductor every success.
Mr. White announced to the boys and parents present that the boys' choir would .have rivals next year in a junior girls' choir, for which organisation he had eh; rolled as-many as 50 girls on Fridayevening.
