The report of the directors of Smith and.Smith, Ltd., Dunedin, for the year ; .ended June 30 last states:—"The result of • ' the year's operations discloses a net loss lof £377; This amount, together with a .debit balance of £8821 carried over from , c last year, leaves the appropriation account 7 in debit to the extent of £9198. The demand for the company's products was severely restricted osviug to the stagnation of the building trade, and following ' _ a .reduction in turnover the gross profits decreased by nearly £3000. Savings, ,'■ however, were effected wherever possible, anil the expepses- of running the business were reduced by almost £9000.
