CRICKET CHAMPIONSHIPS

WELLINGTON'S LEAD INCREASED

CROOK SCORES ANOTHER CENTURY

Keen and interesting play was the order in local'senior cricket on Saturday afternoon, when the fourth" series of championship matches was concluded. Although part of the first day's play was nullified, Wellington pressed home their advantage over University and gained their second outright win of the season, which places, them in a commanding position at the head of the championship table. University's second innings had a better yield than the first, but Symes, who had returned sensational figures in the first innings, added six more wickets to his' bag. A fine all-round performance by Parslae, with James a valuable aid to success, was .largely instrumental in giving Wellington College Old Boys a win over Hutt, who had to strive hard to keep their end up in the second innings, in spite of a productive "knock" by Hamilton. Kilbirnie, for whom Crook made his second successive century, with Ward also to the fore, went exceedingly close to gaining an outright win over Institute, whose: last' men in the "second innings were at the wickets when play ceased. Tlie second day's play in this match provided much of interest and play in the concluding stages Avas very exciting. Ashenden bowled with good measure of success for' Kilbirnie. Although Tindill was again in scoring form, Midland were unable to get anywhere near Petones' total. Petone, who registered their first win, did not call a follow-on, but took some batting practice whicji was relished by Mallard and O'Leary. Wellington'now lead Kilbirnie and Wellington College Old Boys by7six points.
