RELIEF IN CANTERBURY
(By Telegraph.—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, December 17. Steady rain set in from the east today, with every prospect of continuance. Rain is very badly needed, and already sufficient has fallen to freshen pastures and wheat crops, but if an appreciable amount of good is to be done much more rain is needed. However, the prospects: of steady, Soaking rain continuing for-a useful period aro better now than they havo been for many weeks, aud a continuance of- the easterly weather with steadily falling rain would assure the season for farmers. #' The rain is general over the province, and in North Canterbury, where the drought has been most severe, half an inch has f allon. - : t
