OBITUARY
MR. DANIEL G. RIDDIFORD
News has been received of the death yesterday at his residence, '' View Halloa," Marton, of llr. Daniel George Riddiford, the well-known pastoralist, in-his 75th year. The late Mr. Riddiford was a son of Jlr. Daniel Riddiford, who came from Yorkshire, England, and was born at Lower Hutt in 1859. Educated at Uppingham Public School, in the Old Country, Jlr. Riddiford returned to New Zealand in 1878, and spent sev: eral years on his father's station, Te Awaiti, on the East Coast, about 30 miles from Martinborough. Ho subse-j quently acquired the Burnside station on the main road from Stanway to Halcombe. For many years he was a member of the council of the Manawatu and AVest Coast Agricultural and Pastoral Association. He sold "Burnside" and bought a place outside of Taihape called Jlokau... He has lived at "View Halloa," near Jlartbh, for many years. In hunting, and polo circles Mr. Riddif ord.'s name was weir known, ho having been ;.Master of tho Rangitikei Hounds ; f or. forty-nine years. As captain of the Rangitikei Polo Club'he had a good .sporting record, having skippered the club in 1894 when they won the. Saville Cup, and again in 1885 when -they were the winners of the Allround .-'Challenge.Cup. . In addition, he was president of tlie New Zealand Hunt Clubs' Association, and was devoted to sport of every description. He formerly owned some first-class weightcarrying hacks, hunters, and steeplechasers, and won numerous prizes at tho various agricultural and pastoral association shows in Hawke's Bay, Wairarapa, Manawatu, AVanganui, and the West Coast, especially in the jumping and weight-carrying classes. He was a good shot and angler, and was a steward of the Marton Jockey Club. The late Mr. Riddiford was twice married. His first wife was a daughter of the late Jlr. Kelham, of. Lower Hutt. There was brie • daughter, who now resides in England. His second wife was Miss J. Glonnie; a daughter of the late Mr. John Glennie, of New South AVales. Jlr. Donovan Riddiford is a son. Jlessrs. Vivian, Daniel, and Eric Riddiford are riiephcws.
