Robert W. Chambers was an.'American; popular novelist of considerable pro-* ductive powers; in some years he wrotei three and four books. He was bora ati Brooklyn in 1865 and began an art [career, studying at the famous Aca* demie Julian in Paris from 1886 t» 1893. Ho exhibited in the - Salon fo* the first time in 1889 and became a successful illustrator, working for leading, periodicals, but at the age of 28 hrt started publishing his writings, and that was the .beginning of a constant* river of books, some of them enjoying; considerable success. Perhaps hia be3t-known novel was "The Conuhon Law," which was translated to stage and screen; others were "The Streets of Ascalon," "The Dark Star," "The Drums of Auloue," "The Sun Hawk," and "The Rogue's Moon." Louia Joseph Vance was also a popular writes in the older tradition.
