THE HAKA AND WAKATIPU
Reports to hand from South Africa show that not only did The Haka (Lord Quex —Dominant) win on the opening day of the South African Turf Club's Metropolitan Meeting at Kcnilworth, Cape Town, last month, but he scored again on tho second day, when Wakatipu (Paper Money—Philomela) was also successful. Sir Joseph B. Robinson's third Dominion purchase. Eureka II (Chief Ruler—Pebble 11), has since aluo been n winner, so he is having a great run with his three New Zealand three-year-olds this season.
In his second win The Haka beat a field of fifteen in the Electric Handicap, of £200, 7 furlongs. He was third into the straight, and he won by half a length from Eryngo, who finished very fast. Wakatipu's success was in the important sprint, the Union Handicap, of £300, 6 furlongs, in which there were only four starters. He was second early, and came on to score very comfortably by over a length from the three-year-oM filly Diligent, who is also owned by Sir Joseph and was the stable's elect, according to the betting. The class of the horse engaged in the Union Handicap is indicated by the weight, 6.13, that Wakatipu carried.
