THE SKIP JUMPED
A New Zealand bowler wrote as iollowsvto the bowls writer-of the Sydney "Referee" (Mr. R. T. Harrison)j whoa« help and advice have often been asked by i and freely given to Dominion bowlers, and ■whom wo hope to see at the Dominion tournament, here in January:—Can you say what should be done in regard to the following, or if there is any rule to deal with itf At the twentieth head our rink was six down, and we got them, making all square. In the last head I (No. 3) managed to rest out by a very small margin the: opposing shot bowl, which was left delicately balanced on its edge. We all changed over except the opposing- skip, who to my amazement made several jumps, causing the bowl to fall over for shot. We lost. Asking him if he did not think his. jumping had any effect, he y replicd: "No; the bowl was falling all the time!" Reply: In Australia it would possibly; bo TCgarded as "deliberate interference," and the whole eight awarded to the other side on appeal to the umpire. Viewed from any angle, it is not sporting oven to walk round a leaning bowl, and thus giving "assistance" tor wards its falling in. You never find them waltzing round a bowl that ii leaning outwards.
