LAND PURCHASES
Although 128 offers of estates for consideration were received by the Land Purchaso Controller during the last financial year, it was considered inadvisable to make any purchases. This information is contained in the annual report on tho Land for Settlements Act presented to Parliament yesterday. Tho only transaction effected was the acquisition of an area of sixty acres as an addition to the Wairak.au settlement, near Te Aroha, The total acreage of the lands offered was 1-32,u3j, of which 59,927 acres were in the Auckland and North Auckland land districts. . Up to March 31 last the total number of estates acquired under the Act. is 725, the area representing 2,127,717 acres, and tho purchase price £13,922,663.
