BUTTER AND CHEESE

REDUCED SHIPMENTS

INCREASED STOCKS

It is evident, from latest retflrus published by the Dairy Board, that regulation of shipments of- dairy produce to the United Kingdom is still in operation. For the month of November last total butter shipments were 10,281 tons, or-5201 tons less than for the corresponding month of last year. Cheese exports for November at 6448 tons, were 4169 tons less than for November, 1932. For the season, August 1 to November 30, the total shipments i of butter to all countries were 41.459 tons. actually 351 tons more than for the 1932 period, but there were, increased shipments this year to countries other than Great Britain, but none to Canada', as against 233 tons to that country for last year. With regard to cheese, the total exports for the period August 1 to November 11 amounted to 22,462 tons, or 1877 tons less than'for the corresponding period of last yeaiv practically all to the United Kingdom.. Shipments to other countries were but 38 tons, or 5 tons more'than for the same months of last year. '.;' The stock, position as reported by the board,, is as follows:- 1-, ' ■ - BUTTER. Dee. 1,33. This increase in ■ stored ' produce in the United States may have given colour to the reports, of possible shipments of dairy produce to England in,order' to take advantage of the present low rate of exchange of-the dollar to'the £ sterling-. Arrivals of New Zealand butter in the United. Kingdom .iox. December, to February ,are .estimated at 44,925 tons, compared with 35,918 tons for the corresponding months of last year. Arrivals of New Zealand cheese will be' 30,564 tons, or but 200-tons • more than for-the corresponding months of 1932. . :

-Consumption, of JS Tew Zealand dairy proouce in the United Kingdom, judged by deliveries . from' cold stores, is well sustained, which may be explained by the attraction of its low' retail price. For August to . November of this year it amounted to 33,509 tons of butter, against 21,97? -tons for these months of 1932; and 24,620 tons of cheese, compared with 19,138 tons for the.corresponding months of last year. .
