BLIZZARD IN BRITAIN

ROUGH CHANNEL CROSSING

BABQTJE IX PEEIL

(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, December 13. The fiercest gale of the winter swept the British coasts today and was particularly severe in the English Channel. Some cross-Channel boats were diverted from Doverjto Calais and sailings were curtailed. Those crossing experienced the roughest weather this winter. Lifeboats around the coasts had many calls and some anxiety was for a time felt for the large Finnish-owned fourmasted barque Lawhill, which left London last week for Australia and will take part in the annual grain race next year. Off Deal the Lawhill dropped her anchors and held her position 400 yards off shore until a Dover tug towed her clear. The cross-Channel cargo service ,was cancelled. Several fishing boats are overdue.
