COUNCIL PASSES BILL'
The Trade- Arrangement (New Zealand and Belgium) Ratification Bill was put through all stages and passed by the Legislative Council yesterday afternoon. In moving the second reading, the Minister of Education (the Hon. E. Masters) said that they had received information from the Belgian Government that it was desirous of ratifying the agreement today, and it was therefore desired that the- Bill should be passed immediately by the Council. It waa to be hoped that the treaty would lead to further agreements between New Zealand and Belgium, as the Dominion toquired avenues for the disposal of her surplus products. There was a big demand in for the goods New Zealand produced, and there was no reason, except want of initiative, that the Dominion should not extend her relations with Belgium to the benefit of both countries. The best treaty provided for two-way traffic. The Bill was put through all stages and passed.
