CARROTS MAY STILL BE SOWN

It is still not too late to sow carrots. This may be'necessary if the first sowing failed. The deeper the soil is worked the better, for long varieties this cannot be too greatly emphasised. Good soil without fresh manure is the best and sowing should be very thinly done. By mixing tho seed with a. little sand or fine earth more even distribution will be ensured. Thin sowing saves a lot :of trouble in thinning later. Allow sufficient room between the rows for working the hoe, which will be necessary to keep-down weeds and conserve the soil moisture. On light soils the long varieties are best, .as they put their roots further down where they can find moisture.
