WELLINGTON CLUB TITLE

The Wellington Club's championship semi-final between D. O. Whyte and 3. D. G. Duncan at. the weekend was remarkable for two things in the morning round, Duncan's erratic long game, and Whyte's inability to sink reasonable putts on the fast greens. It is calculated by one who watched the round that had Whyte sunk putts of three and four feet, he would have been at least 5 up at the end of the round. Duncan's drives were frequently astray and his seconds found more than one bunker, but his short game was perfect. Oft' the greens Whyte played exceptionally well. They finished all square, but in the afternoon Duncan recovered form with woods and irons, and turned in a 72, to win 2 and 1.
