STOCK STATISTICS

FARMER'S CRITICISM

(By 'I'elegraph.—l'resi Association.)

.MASTERTON, November 29. Interesting reference, to official statistics of, sheep flocks in A'ew Zealand was made at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Fanners' Co-operative Distributing Co., Ltd., today by Mr. Duncan McGregor.

According to official statistics of sheep flocks, he said, thero had been a large decline last year, particularly in Canterbury arid Southland. • Personally, he very much doubted that there had been any decline, or at all eventk a large decline. \

Stock ■ statistics were collected on April 30, and this at times was apt to give a misleading result. In the dry season fat stock was all got away early in the year. He had visited Southland in May and found' that a very large part of the fat sheep.and lambs Had already been got away. The present plan. did not give an accurate indication of the position of stock in New Zealand,, and he would be prepared to move in the right place that stock statistics shoukl be collected on June 30 instead of April 30.'
