PACERS AND TROTTERS

(By "The Eagle.")

The Hutt Park representatives at the' Metiopolitan Meeting—GlenroL&ic and1 Logan's Pride —are being given a phoit, let-tip in order to freshen up after their racing in the south. Glcnrossic proved a keen disappointment to his connections, who expected him to be very hard to beat in the Cup, and his failure to even run into a. place in'any oE the events he* contested would suggest that the sou of Matchlight must have tiained off in the last few days before the meeting; Logan's Pride made a good showing for the greater part of the way in hie, race on the first day, though he did not finish in a place. He ■nill probably be kept going with v view to competing at the Canterbury Park Meeting-at Addington at the New Year.

Loul Wrack, who won a race for L. O. Thomas (it the last oneetin;* at ' Hutt Park, has been nominated for a race on' each day of the lforbury Park Meeting, to take place -on Thursday and Saturday of next week. The_ races in question are both 3.42 class events of a mile and a" half, which provide a nice ' opportunity for beginners who have wjn one race (from 3.45) to start from the front mark. Agile, on 12yds, will be one of the hardest for Lord Wrack to beat- should he make the trip,to Dunedin.

The Wcllington-pwncd David McElwyn is now under "the c'aro of the Cliristchureh drainer fi. B. Berry, who, however,- ie giving the Arnelicau-bred stallion little more than jogging work,- ac the lameness that affected him, when trained at Hutt Park appeara to be (.till in evidence. t>avid McElwyn's best winning performance-so. far was in the Hawera Cup last Easter, when, although he wael sufferiug from soreness, L. Thomas got him home by a head from the favourite, Belle o' Mine. The son of. Air. McElwyn has had two seasons at, the stud, and two very fine colt foals by. him are those produced this season by Mr.' T. Cotton's Mihad (Author Dillon— Mis»s Havoc) and Mr. Leadbetter's Zella ,(Huia Dillon—Fair Puritan).- The Mihad colt 'carries the name white markings as his sire. At''Addington on Tuesday morning Norman Fox was given his, firit run- since meeting with his unfortunate accident at the start oil the Petone Handicap at the Cup Trial Meeting at Hutt Park. Mr. T. Fox's trotter showed no ill-effects after his) work, and is to be taken along steadily in the meantime. Wrackler's party have evidently decided not to persevere further with him as a pacer, as he has been nominated as a trottejr at.Foi'bury Park; where he figures in the principal event, the President's Handicap, on 24yde—a 4.30 mark., He was on 4.24 as a pacer in the New Zealand Cup.

As is usual at carnival time, H. Matson and Co. held a sale of trotting stock on Monday last at Tattorsall's Horse Bazaar, Christchurch. Among those offered was the crack trotter Huon Voyage, who was paeeed in at 100 guineas. The novice pacer Social Pest (Matchlight—Cora Dillon), who was second three" times-last sfcason, fell to the bid of J. J. Kennerley at So guinras. It is understood that lie us, to be prepared by U. D. Kennerley at Auckland. ■ The trotter Olsen found a new owner at 95 guineas, whikt £1 Merit,.was sold by E. C. McDermott for 40 guineas, with a contingency of £30,from,the first win. A maiden pacer by Author DillonDilemma brought 3ft guineas. Mr. H. F. Walker offered Brent Zolock, but na the highest bid was 20 guineas, the son of Brent Locanda was passed in, Red Shadow's winnings in stakes have now reached a total of £7234. He hap won 22 races to date, and his fea^.of going through the Metropolitan Meeting unbeaten and winning four of the principal events has not ' hitherto been equalled. One of the .b'eit performances of this kind was that of Padlock at the August Meeting in 1929, who after winning the International Handicap of, one. mile on the first day, won the King George and National Handicaps, the principal two mile events on the succeeding days, being undefeated at. the meeting. At the ,3920 August Meeting at Addington, Author Dillon won the three principal two' mile 1 events, including the National Cup, in hit. phly fitarte. JCello Sydney Willtes Won 'four races at a pup meeting at Addington, bnt his rtictessMTwcre not gained in, the principal events'. \
