DOMINION COUNCIL MEETS

EXTENSION OF MOVEMENT

The Dominion Council-meeting of the League of Mothers v/as held in Wellington yesterday, when representatives were present from Auckland, Wellington, Otago, Southland provinces, tho Scattered Branches group, and the Dominion executive. The meeting was held at the Women's Club.

Mrs. J. S. Elliott, Dominion president, woleorned the delegates, Mesdames English, Kingston, Smith (Autkland), McGregor (Otago), CheWings and Matthews (Southland), White, Hindmarsh, Wall, and Ernest Hadfield (Wellington), Alex. Smith and Harris (Scattered Branches), Dr. Elizabeth Bryson, Miss Eichmond, and Mrs. Dawson (Dominion executive).

The secretary presented tho annual report and balance-sheet (extracts from whihe were given in a previous issue). The council learnt with gratification that tho membership is now nearly 6000, and that the provincial and Dominion bodies all showed a credit balance, in spite of the difficult times and the low membership subscription..

The Doniinon officers were elected:— Mrs. JjS, Elliott as president; Miss Mary Eichmoid as magazine editor; and Mrs. Ernest Dawson as hon. secretary. Mrs. Charles White and the provincial presidents (ex offieio) were added to the Dominion executive, con.sisting of the Dominion president and secretary s Dr. Bryson, and Miss Eiehmond. . •

■ Several important remits : submitted by the provincial committees wero dealt with, the members realising that with a, growing movement legislation for. the future had.to be considered.

In the afternoon. Mrs. P. Marshall and Miss Lorimer attended in connection with magazine matters; also Mrs. Kersley, for organising discussion. Tentative plans and suggestions were made f6r future development, particularly as a Dominion movement, and the executive was empowered to act as occasion arose. , ■ .

Hearty co-operation .was sought and given, to the Auckland Committee of heads of secondary, schools in their efforts for film reform, it being felt that the league stood for all the principles involved.

The formation of junior branches was sanctioned by tho council, those branches to act under the jurisdiction of the provincial committee in the district where organised. . Rulings were made on matters affecting the internal working of the leaguo, and branches were urged to keep well in mind the principles of the league as an educative body on a religious basis.:

A very warm vote of thanks ' was passed to tho Press throughout New Zealand for their valuable help to the movement, and to, the various speakers who had given so freely of their time. The delegates were the guests of Mrs. Elliott at luncheon and afternoon tea.
