GERMAN EXILE'S OFFENCE
ABUSE OF HOSPITALITY
■ (Received November 2, noon.) ; LONDON, November L Duno Dickhofcr, 36, a German, was fined' £3681 for' defrauding the Customs of £1275 by importing German mechanical lighters without payiug duty. The prosecution characterised the offence as an abuse of British hospitality. The lighters were received in Dublin^ smuggled into 'Ulster, hidden in the scats of motor-cars and thence | to London. Dickhofer, also defrauded i the Tree State Customs. Tho Magistrate recommended Dick- I h'ofcr's deportation. The defence pleaded that ho was not! desirious of returning to Germany for, poetical reasons.
