PARAPARAUMU RELIEF CAMPS
(to the Editor.) Shy—ln your. News' of the Day column on' Tuesday 'you' have a paragraph stating, regarding a .recent "strike," that the 'returned soldiers' camps .did not express to the Public Works 'officials any -opinion of the action of the .men in the Main Road camp—for wtiicl(■ thank you!—but the paragraph proceeds:''.'Beyond-assur-' ing these .officials, that they themselves were not connected with it." It is with the clause in quotation'maiks, Sir, that we wish to deal. We wish to categorically deny that" the trouble in the Main Road camp was ever mentioned,, let alone discussed, by any 1 representative of the R.S. ( camps with any P.W.D. official of any rank or grade. Further, neither of our committees was approached by the Main Road men, nor did either have a committee meeting, oe call a general meeting, on this or afty other matter since the "strike" began. We have already written to the Under-Seeretary for Public Works repudiating the mis-statement concerning any such discussion. An alleged declaration such as has been published would leave our fellow relief workers in Main Road camp to imply that we actively disagreed with their action, whereas the fact is that except by hearsay in the village we are not informed of the details of their troubles. I write with the approval of the Soldiers' Road Committee, also for the Camp Committee, Returned Soldiers' Camp, Beach Road, Paraparaumu. —I am, etc., J. I?. FRASER, ■ ■ , , Hon. Secretary.
