"A DRUNKEN CAROUSAL"
Four'labourers who were found by the police in- a' building 'in Tarahaki Street last night were charged in the Magistrate's Court today With having been found ■with;' out lawful excuse, but in circumstances not disclosing the commission o£ or the intent to commit any other offence. They were Edward Charles Cotter, aijed 52, Robert William Melntyre,. aged 43, John Breen, aged 56, and Edward Adams, aged 56. ■ ' ' . . ' "■"■.-. Senior-Sergeant Dempsey said that Cotter had been taken to the hospital and accordingly his case was adjourned for, a week. , - . . The senior-sergeant said, that the four men had been found at 8.30 p.m. yesterday in a combined shop, .and dwelling at 130 Taranaki Street. The. place had . been left locked, but the police found a side door forced and the men inside, sitting on the floor, taking part in a drunken carousal, among empty beer and methylated spirits bottles. Melntyre had frequently been before the Court for offences allied to. drunkenness, Breen had been charged twice this year with drunkenness, and Adams had been before the Court for two breaches'of'the. Licensing Act, ; Mr. E. Page, S.M., sentenced Melntyre to throe months' imprisonment and Brean and Adams each to one month's' imprisonment. - -. .... .
