UNLICENSED RADIO SETS

An unusual point of view was presented by a defendant to a charge of having an unlicensed radio set when his case came before Mr. J. S. Barton, S.M., in the Lower Hutt Court today. The defendant wrote a letter to the Court, and the Magistrate, after reading it, said th« charge was regarded by tho defendant as a summons for the recovery of debt, but it was a breach of the law to retain a set if a licence had not been obtained. All persons purchasing radio installations were required to obtain licences before the sets were actually operated. The defendant was convicted and fined £1. Mr. Barton asked for publication of tho facts of the case. - - ■ .
