Wellington had a beautiful morning, but. skies clouded over as the day progressed, and the northerly wind increased to gale force. The maximum gust was one at 8 p.m., with a velocity of fifty-eight miles an hour. At 11.15 p.m. the wind changed to-the south. Temperatures fell rapidly, and although rain threatened none eventuated. Conditions tKis morning were" somewhat cloudy and cold, with a moderate wind from botiyeen- the south arid south-east.
