INCREASE IN WORK

Mrs. T. B. Strong presided at the an-' nual meeting of the Te Aro Branch of the Bible Society, and introduced the Rev. David Calder, who conveyed the greetings and congratulations of the New Zealand Council of the society. Mr. Calder told of the progress of the work done throughout the world. The sales of Bibles in New Zealand : last year had exceeded all records by 5949 copies, while the total sales ha| been 16,862 Bibles, together with Testaments and portions, 34,602. More Bibles were being sold in China and Mohammedan countries than ever before, while the sales of English Bibles had exceeded all records by 65,000 copies. A very hearty vote of thanks to the speaker was carried by acclamation. The following officers were elected:— President, Mrs. T. B. Strong; vice-presi-dents, Mrs. Cullen and Mrs. Evans; secretary, Miss Reeves (who received a high tribute for her work as secretary and collector). . A hearty vote of thanks was also carried to Sister Maud for her tireless and efficient .work. The organising secretary thanked the hostess, on behalf of members, for her hospitality and ready and sympathetic help at all times. The president entertained all to tea.
