BRITISH TREASURY BILLS RATE.

(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, October 27. The total, amount applied for in.today's tenders for Treasury bills was £84,610,000. The amount allotted at three months was £45,000,000. The average rate per cent, was 15s 5 2.9 d, as compared with 16s 0.82 d per cent, a week ago. , , .

Russell Smith, chairman of directors of Brown, Ewing, and Co., Ltd., drapers, Dunediu, addressing shareholders at the annual meeting, made comparisons between the figures of this year and last year. Pleasing features were the decrease in book debts and the increase in cash sales, whilst gross profits had- increased by £1500 and the expense of running the business had decreased by nearly £1400, the result being a trading improvement of £2876 compared with the previous year. The figures appeared to indicate that the corner liad been turned, and with anything like a continuance of improved conditions there was every indication of a brighter outlook for the company.

Mr. WV M. Cooper, on seconding the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, eaid he was pleased to see that this year tho company had- improved its position. He was also glad to see that the shares had inquiry on the Stock Exchange, which was au indication that the improved position of the company was attracting the attention of investors. Tho report having been adopted, Mr. C. Russell Smith and Mr. A. F. Cheyne were re-elected, directors, and Messrs. James Brown and Co. were re-elected auditors for the ensuing veiir. The jneeting closed with a vote or thanks to the chairman, management, and staff.
