WELCOME, SPRING!
(Original.) There was great excitement in Fairyland, for Fairiel was giving a ball in honour of Spring. Pixie Postman had been forbidden by Fairiel to tell the fairies anything about the decorations, or whether Spring had accepted, or anything else; but the fairies still clamoured around him when ne brought invitations. There was a hurrying and scurrying on the day before the ball, for everyone was buying lace, shoes, or fans. At 8 o'clock the next night, everyone in Fairyland was assembled at Queen Fairiel's palace. At one end of the room sat Fairiel and Spring. Then the fun began. They had dancing, and a concert, and Little Gladness sang, Daisy Dawn recited, and there were numberless other items. The evening was brought to a close by Spring, who said:— "Dear Fairiel, and everyone, you have no idea how I have enjoyed myself tonight. I am going to Mortalland tomorrow to spread Happiness wherever I go, and I trust that you will all help me." She was greeted' with a burst of applause, and Fairiel said: "The elves am] fairies will help you, I am sure, for there are such a number of them, and they have never failed to help anyone yet."
