SUPERANNUITANT'S REPORT
"BEST ENGINEER AVAILABLE"

OAMARU, This. Day. At a meeting of the Otago Harbour Board! yesterday, during criticism of tho action of certain boards employing superannuated engineers to make reports, reference was made to . the Oamaru Board's action in. employing Mr. F. W. Furkert, late Engineer-in-Chief of the Public Works Department, to report on breakwater improvements, at a fee of £75, when, based on the amount involved in the scheme, £150,000, the job should have been worth £250.
Interviewed this morning, the chairman of the Oamaru Harbour Board, Mr. E. E. Ireland,'said that the board engaged Mr. Furkert because .it considered him the best engineer available at the time for that class of work.
