After three strenuous days of play in the open championship, the amateur and professional foursomes today provided relaxation for the1 competitors in the New Zealand golf tourney at Titirangi. The play is over 36 holes. The best round among tho professionals this morning was 72 by Douglas and J. Clements. The results of the first round are as ■follows: — Douglas and J. Clements, 72. The qualifying score was 329 or better, Goulding, Quin, Coyle, and' D. C. Collins, of Wairarapa, wero all 329, which made one over the 32 players required. .Collins was tho unlucky one to be eliminated.by the draw from a hat. The final scores of Menzies, George, Plumley, and Goulding were omitted from the open table. These players did not enter for the open event; they were playing for their qualification for the amateur event. Menzies's gross score was 311, George's 318, Plumley's 319, and Goulding's, as already stated, 329. Their afternoon rounds yesterday were: Menzies 82, George 81, Plumley 77, Goulding '82. A return to 18-hole matches has been made this year for the first three . rounds of the amateur event. The semifinals and final will be over 36 holes. The draw is:—Ralph v. ■ Goulding, Plumley v. In the contest for the Gibson Cup for the best aggregate in tho first two rounds of the open championship resulted in a tie between' the professionals Blair and Melntosh, and Blair won -the play-off. The Myers Cup, for the best aggregate on handicap over ■ the last two rounds, was won by the professional J. A. Clements, who defeated five others bjr one stroke. Yesterday's play is reported on page 13.
