GOOD FIELD LIKELY
THE AUSTRALIAN DERBY
Judging by advice's; from Sydney, there is every prospect of- a dozen.- hovses. contesting the Australian Jockey Club's Derby at Randwick "next Saturday^ - The fact that Hall Mark, Blixten, and Limarcli, whose prospects have been.most favoured, have all been beaten: lately ■ creates > a strong impression that the issue is very open. In the Rosehill Guineas BHxtea avenged his Hobartville Stakes defeat by L'imarch, who, however, was suffering from foot trouble. It would seem that there is not yery much between the two,; and which is the better over the Derby distance will have to be left, for the race to decide.- , '- • .< Deputy Ruler's win in the Sir: Herbert Maitland Stakes last Wednesday will no doubt cause him to enter into calculations. -The Victorian-owned division sent to Randwick to contest the Derby comprises Hall Mark, Rapsoriiji, Break.Up, Gamebird, and Snowfelt. Since Hall Mark was beaten into third place, in; the -'Memsie Stakes, nine furlongs,' his staying' ability has been doubted. Break'Up'is viewed as most : promjsing, and, unless some- .■ keen judges are. astray, in their judgment, he will prove himself as -a .stayer. ' A good word is also said for Rapsonia, : ;'whose sira traces to Carbine. '*■':.• : ■■'■;■• - : The Derby field will be.drawa from tht following:-— „ ■ ;./''•.'' , Blixten; by Night Raid—Receipt.
