THEFT OF RINGS
AN ARREST MADE

GEEYMOTJTH, September 25.
Two jewellers' shops were robbed of rings today by a man, believed to be unemployed, who was subaeqeuntly arrested. Asking to see engagement rings at Mr. Tennent's shop, he distracted the proprietor's attention, removed a ring, and said he would bring his fiancee to see the one he liked. Mr. Tennent then discovered the loss and informed the police, but in the meantime the man had gone to Mr. Gilbert's shop in the next block, adopting similar tactics, and securing a £27 ring from a lady assistant, who later followed and identified him in a hotel bar as also did Mr. Tennent. A constable, on arriving, saw him drop one ring on the floor. The other ring was found behind a barrel. The arrested man appears in court tomorrow. •
