THEIR DAYS NUMBERED?
It would look as if the days of the country racing clubs are numbered, as the small amount that such clubs are able to offer in stakes, and the expense of travelling to distant courses will not now induce trainers to support them, remarked Mr. H. Oliver at the annual meeting of the Hororata Racing Club on Tuesday. Mr. Oliver considered that the only alternatives are to turn into a trotting club, or to go out of action. It seemed hard for him. who had been chairman of the committee for 25 years, to talk like this, but he felt that, with the reduced surplus, small membership, and poor support from trainers, it was not safe to risk running ;.(• a lops. )
