K. J. SCOTT AND H. R. C. WILD

The two nominees from Victoria University College for Rhodes Scholarships this year arc Messrs. K. J. Scott and 11. E. C. Wild. Their nominations' were confirmed yesterday at a special meeting of the Professorial Board. Mr. Scott, who is 20 years of age, was born at Lincoln, Canterbury, his father being Mr. J. G. Scott, of Blenheim, re-1 tired Government Inspector of Stock. Mr. Scott received his primary education at Blenheim, and after entering Marlborough College won a Junior National Scholarship and a John Tinline Scholarship in 1925. In 1927 Mr. Scott matriculated at Nelson College, and won a Senior National Scholarship. Two years later, while- dux of tho college, he came second in the Auckland University College examination for the Gillies Scholarship, and won a University Entranco Scholarship. While at Nelson Collcgo ho also came first in New Zealand in tho Public Service Entrance Examination, and won a number of collego prizes. He entered Victoria College in 1930, studying for the B.A. and LL.B. degrees. He has been given first-class terms in eight subjects, and second-class in several others. This year he is taking Philosophy 3 for the final B.A. examination. He will be concluding his solicitor's professional examinations this year. His sporting interests include .cricket, football, tennis, hockey, and boxing, and ho is also a keen debater. Mr. Wild, who is also 20 years of age, is a son of Mr. L. J. Wild, headmaster of the Feilding Agricultural High School, He attended primary schools in Christehurch and Feilding, and in 1925 entered the Agricultural High School, taking an academic course. He matriculated in 1927, won a Higher Leaving Certificate in 1928, an^ became dux of the high school a year later. Mr. Wild went to Victoria College in 1930 and commenced studying for an LL.B. Ho is taking the last section' of the degreo this year. So far ho has taken first-class terms in Crimes and Company Law, and second-class in Property, Contracts, Torts; and English. At high school Mr. Wild was a member of tho first cricket eleven for four years, and durhig the last year was vice-captain of tho first fifteen. He was in the boxing and house debating teams; won an all-round merit cup, and was elected president of the school council, the school being under a self-government system. At Victoria College last season he played in tho second cricket eleven; ho is vice-captain of the senior B Rugby football team, and has played several games1, in the senior A grade. In tho inter-university tournament in Auckland last Easter ho was a member of the Victoria College boxing team. Mr. Wild is secretary of the Rugby and cricket clubs, and deputy-captain of the boxing club. Ho is also a member of the Students' Association executive. The Other three university colleges have also the right to make nominations. The New Zealand Rhodes Scholarships Selection Committee will meet towards the-end of the year. The Dominion is allowed two scholarships annually, but last year •no candidates were ejected as the committee did not consider that any of the nominees wero worthy of selection.
