Tennis .circles are discussing with scepticism a report that four leading tennis players, representing England, Australia, France, and the United States, might turn professional are inaugurate an international competition to rival the Davis Cup play of the amateurs. The report said that Crawford, Cochet, Perry, and Vines might join Tilden in the/professional fold. The plan is conditional on Vines's successful defence of the American title against the other three. , Vines, denying that he knew of the plan, admitted "it would not be a bad idea." . ' ' . The tennis editor of the" New York World-Telegram" understands that there is a possibility that Vines, Cochet, Crawford, and Perry may join Tilden in professional tennis, and inaugurate a professional trophy' competition similar to the Davis Cup, No confirmation is available. .'
